CTD Taxiway at Noumea

In real life Noumea sees far less traffic than will be present during Cross the Ditch. The aprons are only connected to the runway near the middle, requiring backtracks on in excess of a kilometre in both directions.

In order to facilitate efficient flow of event-level traffic, ATC may require departing aircraft to taxi via the 'CTD taxiway' which is a fictional taxiway extending Taxiway W east and west across the grass area on the northern side of the runway from the apron area to the runway thresholds. See the Noumea Guide page for more information.

Use of the imaginary taxiway is a necessary compromise to allow us to make available extra departure slots during the Wave 1 window.

Limited Parking At Noumea

There are a limited number of parking spots on the civilian apron at Noumea, and it is likely that demand for gates will outstrip supply, especially at the start of Wave 1. Please consider the following:

  • Make sure your simulator has collision damage turned off.
  • If you are observing only, please position yourself on the grass on the southern side of the runway.
  • If there is no parking available on the civilian apron, use the Freight or Military aprons.
  • If all the aprons are full, position and load your aircraft on the northern side of the runway upwind of the civilian and freight aprons. Be sure not to block the 'CTD' Taxiway.

Queenstown only suitable for Narrow-Body Aircraft

The airport at Queenstown is surrounded by mountainous terrain, with a 1780m runway: wide-body aircraft (ie: anything larger than a B753/A321) are not suitable for use at this airport.

A skeleton crew will be staffing Christchurch (NZCH) as an alternative to Queenstown for pilots wishing to operate larger aircraft during Waves 2 & 3.

Notes

Expect Intersection Departures at Cairns

Both runways at Cairns require a roughly 600m backtrack to perform a full-length take-off.

In order to minimise runway occupancy time and allow the efficient flow of event traffic, where possible pilots should plan to perform an intersection departure from Taxiway B2 for Runway 15, or Taxiway B5 for Runway 33.

Carry Holding Fuel to Queenstown

Due to the possibility of arrival holds at Queenstown, pilots should ensure they load holding fuel for this flight.

Low Fuel will not entitle pilots to priority sequencing during this event.

Christchurch Operating as a Large Aircraft Alternate for Queenstown

Queenstown is not suitable for wide-body aircraft (ie: anything larger than a B753/A321).

A skeleton crew will be staffing Christchurch (NZCH) as an alternative to Queenstown for pilots wishing to operate larger aircraft during Waves 2 & 3.

Pilots in narrow-body aircraft (ie: B753/A321 and smaller) are STRONGLY encouraged to operate through Queenstown as this will be the main focus of ATC activity during these waves.
