Aircraft Type Limitations

The runway length at NZWN is 1800m/5900ft. Pilots, especially of aircraft larger than A330/B763, should load their aircraft accordingly.

Flight Plan Notes:

Longer Distance Route

By popular request, we have added a longer oceanic flight to this season's event. Apia to Wellington will take approximately four and three-quarter hours to complete.

Pilots seeking a shorter flight during Wave 2 should fly Wave 2A from Nadi to Wellington which is approximately three and three-quarter hours.

Special Event Routing

The flight route from Apia to Wellington is not the standard route flown real-world (which are routes via Auckland and is approximately ten minutes longer). The event route has been selected to keep the aircraft better aligned with the main flow of traffic to/from Wellington and facilitates event traffic management. It also has the added bonus of adding an extra helping of scenery to your flight, including Tonga, the Kermadec Islands, and White Island during the oceanic section. The last forty-five minutes of the flight traverse the eastern ranges of New Zealand's North Island, affording views of Lake Taupo and the mountains of the Volcanic Plateau.

Pilots taking part in the event are STRONGLY encouraged to file the event flight plan rather than the real world one. Aircraft on the official event routes may receive priority handling by ATC during the event ahead of those on other non-event routes, and during this Wave will definitely fly over more spectacular scenery!

Backtrack Required

Tahiti, Nadi, Apia, and Noumea airports do not have full length taxiways and require backtracking for departures and/or arrivals.

Please be aware of nearby aircraft and expedite all backtrack operations to minimise delays for other pilots.

Limited Parking Available

Tahiti, Apia, and Noumea airports have a limited number of gates available.

Gates will be allocated on an as-available basis. If the airport is particularly busy, you may be asked to board/deboard your aircraft your aircraft for the grass areas adjoining the apron.

If you intend to remain at the airport for an extended period after arriving - for example, to observe the other aircraft - please advise the controller of your intentions and request taxi to a grass area to allow other pilots use of the gates.

*** Make sure your sim is set to ignore damage from collisions with other aircraft. ***

Final Briefing - Wellington
Sat 01 Dec 2018 04:31 UTC

The final forecasts for Wellington indicate cloudy weather with the possibility of an occasional shower. The winds are forecast to shift from the north-east to the south-east over the course of the afternoon which may result in a change of active runway during the event. At this stage, runway 16 is the most likely candidate, however weather (and in particular the winds) in the Wellington region tends to be quite unpredictable, so pilots should check with the ATIS/ATC during flight to confirm the current conditions.
